Coach Austell

What's up with the Austell's? One word. TRACK.

It's the end of the season and we had the regional meet all week last week, and the state meet in Murfreesboro, Tn this week. Good thing Kent and I both LOVE track, and LOVE our kids, because it is pretty time consuming!

Our High school girls team finished 6th out of 12 teams in regionals. I think last year they got last, so it was a HUGE improvement and we had some GREAT performances! I have honesty LOVED working with these girls and am so proud of them!

Kent's guys got 3rd place in regionals and many of them qualified for state. His brother, Lane, won the decathlon (10 events) and when he competed at state this Monday and Tuesday, he got 2nd place! He did INCREDIBLE!

               Lane long-jumping

                     Pole Vaulting
2nd Place in State! Unreal!

Proud coach w/ his brother

Besides that, Lane graduated from High school last Saturday and committed to Clemson where he got a scholarship for track and academics. Such a stud.

Baby Update

How far along? 33 weeks

Size of baby? A pineapple, 4.25 pounds, 17 inches

Symptoms? BACKACHE...oh man. I have such sympathy for people who live in chronic pain! For the past 2 weeks, I can't sit for more than 10 minutes without pain shooting up my back. There is no relief but to lay down completely flat, which doesn't allow me to get very many things done. It makes car rides, meals, visiting with friends, watching track meets VERY distracting and I try not to be grumpy but the pain is awful. We were at my brother's state decathlon meet all day Monday and Tuesday (plus 3.5 hours of driving there and back) and it really was hard to focus and enjoy it! I had to lay down on the bleachers every half hour and it was pretty embarrassing baring my huge belly to the world as I laid flat on the bench. Oh well, any pride I once had, I have had to learn to let go of as I've grown bigger and bigger during pregnancy and people seem to stare whenever I'm in public. Especially when I go for a run. People think I'm crazy. But running 4-5 miles feels a heck of a lot better than sitting on the couch these days.
Sleeplessness...I usually lay in bed a couple hours before falling asleep, am restless throughout the night and am up early, so I guess God is preparing me for the lack of sleep I'll be getting once she's here!
Hunger...Definitely noticed an increase in appetite compared to the other 2 trimesters! Guess this little one needs a lot more now than she did before!

Baby room? We haven't touched the baby room in a few weeks. I've tried twice to order a yellow rug to match her bedding and curtain, but both times, the color was NOT how it looked online and I had to send it back. So I'm still on the lookout for that. Othewise, I'm waiting til mom comes in next Saturday to help me with the real decorations.

Coming up...Kent and I are headed back to Murfreesboro Thursday-Saturday for the end of the State track meet (lots of his guys are competing). Then Saturday we'll drive straight to Orange Beach, Florida for our 'babymoon'! We get a WEEK to enjoy the beach, the peace and quiet, and each other. My husband needs it more than I do! He is READY to be done with school!
We come back the following Saturday, pick up my mom from the airport on the way home (she stays with us til Wednesday) and have a shower that next day that my mother-in-law, sis, and aunt here are helping put on for me, so that will be such a blessing and I'm glad my mom could join us! That's what's up here!

OH! And this weekend is my BIRTHDAY! I forgot about that in all the craziness! Kent & I will be on the BEACH! No greater way to celebrate than that! I'm so pumped!

I made some YUMMY strawberry banana muffins this morning, so I thought I'd pass along the recipe found here for anyone who loves baking and breakfast food as much as me!

Strawberry Banana Muffins
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Position rack in center of oven.  Line 12 muffin cups with muffin liners or spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a small saucepan melt the butter. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl whisk together the brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and mashed banana. Add the melted butter and stir to combine.
  4. In another large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Fold in the berries, making sure they are coated with flour.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the 12 muffin cups. Bake until muffin tops are golden and just firm, 20 to 24 minutes, rotating halfway through baking time. Cool muffins in muffin tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack and cool 5 minutes before serving.

9 weeks or less to go! WHAT?

How Far along? 31 weeks along...9 or less to go! I can NOT believe it. She's about 3 1/2 lbs and the size of 4 oranges. It says now that she is pretty fully developed, she is just gaining fat. And I'll gain about a pound a week til she comes.

These are a few maternity pictures Kent's dad took last week. There are lots more I'll put up later, but it was fun to document our first pregnancy! (He is a great studio photographer and you can see more of his pics here.)
Symptoms: I am starting to get a lot more uncomfortable. When I sit for over 20 minutes, my back starts aching pretty badly and she still really pushes up on my ribs making it hard to breathe. I have had a really hard time sleeping, too! And she is moving around all the time! Not little flutters, but whole body parts are pushing against my stomach. If I wear a fitted shirt, you will constantly see my belly rolling around and bumps poking out. SO WEIRD! I am feeling tired again and more lethargic. I'm still running but not as far, and seem to need a lot more water!
To Do: We have our Childbirth class this Saturday...all day. Ugh. But it'll be really good for us to really learn everything about delivery (and very much more REAL that it is happening) and also to have a better idea of how to care for her after she is born! There is SO MUCH I DON'T KNOW! So that's the next big thing. I am waiting til mom comes to visit June 3 and we have a shower here before we decorate the nursery and go out and buy the essentials.
Life Updates:  We celebrated our 2 year anniversary over the weekend! It was actually yesterday, but our track athletes started regionals so we were at a meet all day. But Kent took me to Nashville Saturday and we stayed at the Opryland hotel. SUCH a crazy huge hotel/resort! It was unbelievable! We had a blast, ate sushi, swam in the pool, watched movies, worked out, shopped...  it was so good to get away and take a break, especially for Kent in this crazy busy month for him. Track meets are pretty consuming this week and the next 2 weeks, then the kids are done with school! Kent's brother and a few of the guys on his team will make it to state, so we will probably be going back to Nashville for that in a couple weeks.
I am SURE going to miss my bible class! They have a 7th grade retreat tomorrow and Friday, so I don't have class. Then next week is my last week to teach, and the following week is finals so they don't come to Bible at all. I'm SO SAD! I'll have to take a class picture to remember them by, because I have REALLY come to love them.
Lastly, I'm just MISSING my Northwest Arkansas peeps a lot this week. Maybe because I haven't had to go to school 4 of the 5 days this week, so I have more alone time, or maybe I just MISS the weekly fellowship I had with my favorite friends, leaders, and kids! But I also miss the familiarity and small town feel of NWA. We are HOPING to head out there the second week of June for one last visit before Kennedy comes.
I guess that's about it! Thanks for caring about our lives!
