Brooklyn at 8 months

I cannot believe you are already 8 months old. It has been a GREAT month and has gone by so fast!

  •   You are still wearing 6 month clothes that are big/baggy on you but getting too short. I am about to switch them all out for 9 month clothes. But you did gain a pound this past month and now weigh 14.4lbs.
  • You wear size 2 diapers and size 1 shoes.
  • You still just have the 2 bottom teeth (which came in at 4 months) but your top two may be coming in shortly because you are chewing on things a little more aggressively lately.
  • You have mastered crawling this month and also pulling up to a stand. You try to cruise around on furniture but that sometimes ends badly. You have had lots of spills and bumps this past month trying to keep up with your big sister. When you pull up to a stand, you don't know how to gracefully get back down. You also try to crawl in spaces too small or low and bonk your head on corners and edges, poor baby. You sure are on the move, JUST like your sister was at this age!
  • Now you are into everything and I can't turn my back on you! You especially love going through the tupperware cabinet and like to play with anything that isn't a toy.
  • If anyone is laying or sitting on the floor, get SO excited. You will stop whatever you are doing, crawl over to them and start climbing on them. (This makes it difficult whenever I try to exercise, do yoga/pilates, sit-ups or stretching because you will literally be on top of me).
  • You still nurse 5x/ day and eat food 3x/ day, but we have increased the amount. You still never want to stop even after you have eaten an enormous amount. I don't know how else to plump you up! You must just have a fast metabolism like your dad.
  • We have started putting you in your sister's high chair instead of the bumbo and you love seeing what we are doing and being included in our family meal times. Otherwise you are crawling under the table at our feet pulling up on the chairs trying to join us while we eat!
  • You still go to bed between 6:30-7pm, and are waking up to eat around 5am,  back to sleep til about 7:15. I don't think you have ever slept 12 hours or all the way to 7am. (When that day comes, I will be having a party! Your sis spoiled me with her consistent 12 hours shifts.)
  • You still prefer to take 2 naps, 9:30 and 1ish but if I miss your morning nap you are awake the rest of the day and grumpy!

Life Lately

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with nana and pappy here. You and your sister got spoiled with so much attention, hugs, kisses, and new toys and books to read (Thank you mom for some new books! ALLLLL KJ wants to do all day is READ!) Here is you at the library exploring the book shelf while I was reading books to your sis.

You are one lucky little girl, Brooklyn, because all of my friends just had or are having baby girls this past year and you are going to have so many awesome girl friends! (Your sis has zero girlfriends! All her friends are boys!) Here are just a few of the babies that come to our life group every week (and there are at least 3 more not pictured!)

We are enjoying celebrating advent this month as we await our big birthday bash for Jesus in a few more days. You will get lots of love at our Christmas celebration this Saturday with your dad's side of the family and we will be starting some new family traditions with just us four on Christmas day now that your sis is old enough to understand it (She already asked us if Santa is real! Sheesh!).

We are SO thankful for each month with you Brooklyn.

Your dad and I continue to pray over you that you will know Jesus is real, that he came from heaven to earth as a babe, died on a cross for your sins and mine, and rose again 3 days later, that He lives in heaven and will also raise us from the dead to live eternally! Your sister now knows John 3:16 and it is so sweet to hear her say it. We pray that both of you girls will know Jesus is all you need! We LOVE this song by Shane and Shane and pray it over both you and Kennedy.

B is 7 months old!

At 7 months old, you are totally a different baby. The first 6 months were really hard. You were not very happy and not sleeping great. I was exhausted, short on patience and felt like I was failing you with not getting you to nap. This past month has been SO MUCH BETTER.
We have seen LOTS more smiles, and when I say smiles, I mean SMILES! They are contagious!
  • You gained a whole pound this past month, now weighing 13.4lbs. You are still tiny, but I'm thankful you are gaining, and I think all the extra food we feed you has made you so much happier!
  • You are still rocking a slight mullet; not much hair growing on top of that blond head but a nice fuzzy patch in the back.
  • You are SO smiley. Whenever anyone looks at you or talks to you, you bust out that smile and it is to die for! It's an open mouth, light up your whole face, contagious, beautiful smile that I am absolutely in love with! You laugh a lot more, if we look at you and smile or laugh, tickle you, make goofy faces or noises, you giggle and giggle.
  • Your smokey raspy growl is still going strong, but now you have started babbling... "mamamama" and "bababa".
  • You reach and grab for everything, scoot/army crawl to get where you want to go, and rock on your knees, trying so hard to crawl (but still face planting).
  • You can sit perfectly now, although you never want to just sit.
  • You can go from a laying position to sitting and then put one foot down like you are about to stand straight up! If I'm on the ground next to you, you WILL try to pull up on me and stand.
  • You love to walk around the house with us holding onto your hands.
  • You are captivated by TV. It's the only time you sit still in our laps. Otherwise when we hold you you are trying to stand up, climb up us, or reach for whatever is nearby.
  • You can blow out air. Weird, I know, but you do this all the time and it makes sister jealous because she still doesn't know how to blow, she spits instead (which makes blowing bubbles and playing her kazoo sadly impossible).
  • You still eat homemade green beans, sweet potatoes or avocado every day. You've tried occasional pouches of various veggies and a couple cans of baby food with some sort of chicken mush in there but for the most part we keep it simple. And you love love love to eat, always fussing when we are all done.
Your sister has been enjoying you so much more now too, wanting to come with me to get you up every morning, getting in your crib to cuddle you and hug you. She will get you toys to play with or your paci if you are getting fussy and says, "It's otay sister, it's otay. Be happy." She'll smother you in a hug and kiss and say, "I tiss her mommy, I tiss her!" (She also pretends to be a baby a lot, using your paci and asking me to burp her). She sure does love being your sister! When we meet new people she points to you and says, "That's MY sister! Bookie. She's my sister".

Schedule (We FINALLY have one...well sort of!)
  • You are ready for bed anytime between 6 and 7pm. You take a bath, get swaddled and snuggled, then I nurse you and put you down slightly awake. You sleep on your side with your paci and lovey between your arms.
  • You sometimes wake up once around 1 or 2am and I make daddy go in and try to put you back to sleep, but occasionally I'll have to feed you.
  • You are up again between 4:30-5am and you want to eat. I'll feed you and then you'll sleep til 7:30.
It's so crazy for me that you are still getting up in the night because your sis slept straight through from 6 weeks on...I'm very ready for you to sleep through the night til at least 6am please! Right now, when I feed you at 5am and try to go back to sleep, your dad is up and getting ready for work and leaves around 6, and as I finally start falling back to sleep around 6:15, your sister is stirring. So I am pretty much really tired all the time.
  • If we stay home in the morning, you will take a 1-2 hour nap between 8:30-9:30am. If we miss this nap, the rest of the day is pretty rough.
  • Your next nap is either when sister goes down around 12:30.
  •  Then there's a 25% chance of you taking a 30 minute nap around 4:30 or 5pm. You want to but it's tough to get you down. sometimes fight sleep but are MUCH better than you have been. You don't resist naps very often and I'm SO thankful the 'crying it out' stage seems to be over (for now).
  • Sundays are rough for us because you will NOT nap at church and we are there for 3 hours. I feel bad for the nursery workers when you are so fussy the second hour, so I try to get you after Sunday school, help you fall asleep in the stroller, and bring you into church with me but that only lasts 30 minutes max til someone coughs or startles you and you are awake and fussy. So I haven't figured out yet how to make Sunday mornings work for us. I remember this being a problem for Kennedy as well. Almost all babies need naps around 10am!
Life Lately
  • You dressed up for your first Halloween as Winnie the Pooh, only because we had a costume that someone had given us that was nice and warm. Halloween night was FREEZING and we only went to 6 houses, then went to a church fall festival. I made your dad dress up like Christopher Robin. KJ and I were Princess Peach and Mario.

It went from hot outside to COLD really fast this fall, so here you are all bundled up for a walk. I am too chicken to run outside in the cold right now, but I do hope to go running with you and KJ more often. You LOVE the stroller and if KJ is at school and I cannot get you to nap, I will go early to school and walk or run with you around the track so you will fall asleep.

We just put up the Johnny Jump up thing and I'm thankful you like it and will play in it for a 30 minute interval. It's always great to have places to put you down where you can entertain yourself and I can get a few things done.

You have gotten a few colds with all the sickness going around but nothing too awful yet, thankfully. Praying for health over you and continued wisdom in raising you! Life is SO CRAZY right now and I feel like I am barely hanging on, yet I'm trying to stop and soak in these precious times with you because they really do fly by. I love you SOOOOOO much, Brooklyn! It is awesome seeing your personality come alive and getting to know you better each month. Looking forward to the holidays with you this year (and thankful we don't have to travel anywhere) and time with Nana and Pappy over Thanksgiving.  SO thankful to be your mama, sweet thing!

BG is 6 months

We made it 6 months! (and these monthly stickers are dumb. You can barely see the number!)
Stats:
You are 26inches long just like your sis was at 6 months (see her blog post to compare), which is about 70th percentile. But you only weigh 12.4 lbs which is about what you weighed 4 months ago. You fell into the 3rd percentile. What is happening?! I was freaking out when I saw the scale. I knew you were skinny but didn't realize you had LOST weight since your 4 month appointment and I feel awful. The doctor said to start food 3x a day and come back in a couple weeks to see if you've gained any weight.

You wear size 2 diapers (that are huge on you) and 6 month clothes. You still barely have any hair except for the thick mullet on the very bottom of your head :).

Schedule:
You don't really have a daily schedule and this is bad news for all of us. I feel like I was so great about Kennedy's schedule but you, my poor daughter, are along for the ride. You are pretty consistent in falling asleep around 6:30/7pm and you (finally) go to bed pretty easily. You are up between 5-6am these days. And when I say you are up, I mean you are wide awake and will not go back to sleep even after feeding you. Girl, this has got to change. I am definitely not ready to start my day as a mama at 5am. Especially because you will fight naps the entire day. If we are out and about, you are always alert and curious to what's around you, so you never sleep. But even if I stay home all day and try to get you to nap, you fight it. Sometimes (after repeated attempts to put you down) you will eventually fall asleep mid afternoon for an hour or sometimes two, right when your sis is getting up from her nap. ONCE you took a 4 hour nap and I kept checking to make sure you were breathing. You take cat naps on our car rides and I'm thankful you actually like your car seat, unlike you sister, but I do think those mini 10 minute naps are messing up your big naps.
I feel awful that we don't have you on a consistent schedule.  I cannot figure you out, nor can I stay home all day and try to. I hate it, and feel like such a bad mama sometimes when I compare what I was able to do when Kennedy your age, when I just had one kid to focus on.  I hate that I can't stay home with you like I could your sister and plan our day around the 3 naps you should be taking but we would all go crazy if we stayed home all day.
You often seem overtired. You are in the BEST mood when you have just woken up or have been fed but it doesn't last very long.  It's awesome when we are out running errands or at the park with friends because you are pretty happy, but when we are home you are often crabby.
Milestones:
-You still haven't figured out crawling, though you are often up on all fours, but sure can get where you want to go by rolling or inching along. You are always reaching for things and love to explore your sister's toys.
-You don't like to work on sitting, because you want to be moving, so this is still a work in progress. You sit in your bumbo when we feed but not on your own yet without face planting.
-You usually eat food 3x a day now that we are trying to bulk you up. You eat rice or oatmeal cereal, avocado and sweet potato. And girl, you love you some food!
We had a fall break this past month and daddy had 3 days off work, but we stayed home and attempted potty training your sister. We did go pumpkin picking and to the zoo, and are SO thankful the weather is cooling off and we can enjoy just being outside every day!
This weekend we are heading to a camp in MS because daddy is speaking at a Jr. High retreat. It will be a very interesting weekend to see how you and KJ do sleeping together in a cabin and how you do away from home for 3 days. I think back to our trip to Chicago and it still haunts me and makes me afraid to take you anywhere else because of how horribly you slept. Now you will have your 2 year old sister in your room so if you are up, it will be even more fun! But hey, it's all about the memories right?

Brooklyn, although these 6 months with you have not been easy (I think you had acid reflux along with colic which made you pretty grumpy), your smile is still the best thing in the world and we will put up with anything to see that beautiful smile. We can't imagine our life without you! I love being your mama and thank God for the beautiful family he has given me!

It's Toof Time!

Brookie Brook!
(For some strange reason, this is what we end up calling you 50% of the time! KJ calls you Bookie Book, but that's a compliment because she really LOVES her books)
Happy 5 months, my little buddy!

-It has been a very growing month for you! Your awesome rolling skills are demonstrated daily, and you will literally roll across the whole room once I set you down. I hate that our floors aren't carpeted because your head gets bumped often from you trying so intensely to move around. I also have a much stronger desire to clean my floors now since that is where you mostly live.
-I'd still say you don't have LOTS of happy awake time. You are the squirmiest baby and don't like to sit still for one minute. I never get to just calmly hold you except for nursing times. It seems like I'm moving you from the floor, to the bouncer, to the swing, to your crib all day long because you have such a short attention span in each thing.
-You are in 3-6mo clothes, although some of the pants are already too short; you are SO long and skinny. Pants won't stay up on you, girl. And you are swimming in size 2 diapers (but they do help eliminate explosions!)
-You love toys! You are all about playing these days and I've finally gotten out all of KJ's baby toys for you to discover.
-You play in the Einstein bouncer for short intervals and love that you are upright and can see everything.
-You can't be in the nap nanny any more because you will flip yourself right out of it.
(I also put away the rock n play. I'm too nervous for you to nap in there now that you sit up and roll around so intensely.)
-You love to chew on your sophie giraffe.
-Your two bottom teeth popped through! I really think that's why your nights had been interrupted, plus you have had a pretty stuffy nose. I'm VERY thankful you seem to be sleeping through the night again! I have been one exhausted mama this past month.
-You also started eating rice cereal this month, just once a day, but you LOVE it and cannot get it in your mouth fast enough. We are hoping this helps you keep some of your milk down, because you still spit up SO MUCH of every meal.
-This past month was pretty busy. You and I flew to Chicago to visit friends and family. You did pretty well on the flights, thankfully and enjoyed seeing nana and pappy but were pretty fussy the whole week we were there.
You got to meet your great grandma Hrivnak who is 93 yrs old! She loved seeing you and thought you were the best baby (because she can't hear very well anymore and never heard you crying which was lots of the time!)

We got to see some of my high schoold besties and their cute little kiddos- this is Sloane who is a few weeks older than you and would be your best friend if we lived near each other!
On this 6 day trip you would NOT sleep through the night, I mean, up every hour! I was a zombie! Thankfully you did much better once we got home, but it made me really nervous for our trip to Fayetteville which was last weekend.

-Our trip to NWA as a family was GREAT! I guess besides going to Nashville when you were a month old, this was our first family getaway. We drove 7 hours to Fayetteville for the wedding of one of my K-life girls who I've known for 8 years! We stayed with dear friends, the Watkins, and and got to visit lots of favorite people.
Sarah's little girl, Haddie Mae was due the same exact day as you were!
Cari was my co-leader in K-life, and she just got engaged herself! Yay for weddings!
You went to your first wedding-Kaylie and Carter Winn. It was a beautiful wedding and so cool that I have been able to watch Kaylie basically grow up and then marry this godly man who is CRAZY about her. To see God's faithfulness in both their lives was beautiful, and I hope and pray I get to watch you marry an amazing godly man someday as well! I'm thankful your daddy is the best example!

Your Schedule:
You are up around 7am, usually because I wake you. (Sometimes you wake up before this and I'll give you your paci and you will fall back sleep). I feed you around 7 and then we go get your sister up. She has school 2-3 days a week from 8-12, so we hurry to get ready and out the door and then you and I will go to the gym or go meet up with a friend or run errands. You are very ready for a nap by 9 or 9:30 but don't always get one depending on what we are doing. Sometimes we will stay out until we pick up KJ at noon. Your only guaranteed nap is when your sister goes down around 12:30 and you usually sleep for at least 2 hours. (It has been amazing having a quiet house for a couple hours when you and your sis are both sleeping at the same time!) You rarely get an afternoon nap in but are so ready for bed by 6:30 or 7pm.
-You eat 5 times a day for 5ish minutes. No clue how many ounces you get.
-You fall asleep swaddled and with your paci in, sleeping on your side but eventually rolling onto your stomach.
It has been a good month with you, little buddy! We love you so much!
